Below is a list of video conferencing and group meeting tools that have been used for online SI-PASS.
Adobe Connect
Adobe Connect includes tools such as an interactive flip-chart, screen sharing, breakout rooms, polls and quizzes, hand raise feature, chat, and an engagement dashboard.
BigBlueButton
BigBlueButton is designed for educational settings and offers collaborative tools like a whiteboard, screen sharing, breakout rooms, hand raise, polls, and chat.
Blackboard Collaborate
This platform, built specifically for education, includes features like a collaborative whiteboard, screen sharing, breakout rooms, hand raise, polls, and chat.

GoBoard
GoBoard is free for higher education group meetings of up to five participants. It offers screen sharing, a collaborative whiteboard, chat, and advanced tutoring tools such as functions and dynamic equations. The platform is limited to five participants per meeting regardless of the pricing plan.
Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts is free and allows group video calls with up to 10 people, including a chat feature. Screen sharing and breakout rooms are not available.
Google Meet
The basic version of Google Meet is free, supporting video meetings up to one hour with 100 participants, including screen sharing. A monthly subscription offers additional features such as breakout rooms, meeting recording saved to Google Drive, hand raise, polls, attendance reports, and extended meeting time.
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams provides a free version with video meetings of up to one hour and 300 participants. Features include screen sharing, chat, breakout rooms, and real-time collaboration in Office apps such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. A monthly fee grants extended meeting duration and meeting recording options.
WebEx
WebEx’s free version supports video meetings up to 50 minutes with 100 participants, featuring screen sharing, breakout rooms, hand raise, polls, and chat. Paid options allow for longer meetings and alternate host capabilities.
Zoom
Zoom offers a free version for group meetings of up to 40 minutes and 100 participants. The platform includes co-host options, screen sharing, breakout rooms, hand raise, polls, and chat.
Digital collaborative spaces and whiteboards
There are several collaborative digital spaces suitable for online SI-PASS, enabling documentation of joint work in both small and larger groups. Below are some commonly used tools within an online SI-PASS setting. Many digital platforms used for SI-PASS, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, also feature built-in whiteboards that can be helpful for hosting sessions.
Miro Board
An unlimited digital whiteboard for real-time and asynchronous collaborative work. Miro allows document embedding, image additions, and includes templates and frames to help organize and navigate collaborative work. The board can document the outcomes from each SI-PASS session, serving as a valuable resource for participants. Miro board is free for up to three boards.
Google Jamboard
A collaborative whiteboard that offers multiple frames within the same space, allowing small groups to work independently. It is free with a Google account.
Google Docs
A document tool for real-time and asynchronous collaboration on text-based content. It is free with a Google account.
Google Sheets
Collaborate on spreadsheets, with an option to convert files to Excel. It is free with a Google account.
Google Slides
A presentation tool that allows real-time and asynchronous collaboration, useful for group presentations and documenting session outcomes. It is free with a Google account.
Padlet
An online bulletin board for sharing thoughts, ideas, and opinions. Useful in breakout rooms and for consolidating contributions when groups come back together. Padlet is free for up to three Padlets.
Scrumblr
A simple online bulletin board, especially suited for activities like KWL (Know, Want to know, Learned). It is free of charge.
GoBoard
Features screen sharing, a collaborative whiteboard, and chat. Advanced tools support subjects like mathematics, chemistry, and physics, including a graphing calculator, equations editor, and bond drawing tool. GoBoard is free for groups of up to five in higher education.
Mathcha
Software designed to visualise mathematics, enabling expression, equation, and graphic visualisations, ideal for use in SI-PASS sessions. Mathcha is free of charge.
Drawasaurus
Drawasaurus is an interactive drawing and guessing game that can be used on a phone, tablet, or computer. This tool is particularly useful for visualising course content in a fun, interactive way.
Factile
Factile allows you to create quiz games in the style of Jeopardy, perfect for reviewing course materials across a range of subjects. Small groups can compete against one another, making it ideal for interactive learning.
Flippity
