SI-PASS at Lund University

Lund University hosts a model SI-PASS programme that provides valuable support to students. Discover more about this initiative and how it benefits students at Lund University.

The main goal of SI-PASS (Supplemental Instruction - Peer Assisted Study Sessions) at Lund University is to help students succeed and reduce dropout rates. It also aims to make it easier for new students to transition from upper secondary school to university. That's why most SI-PASS sessions are offered in introductory courses.

Currently, around 200 courses at Lund University offer SI-PASS sessions across seven of the nine faculties. Each year, more than 5,000 students take part in these sessions, supported by about 270 active SI-PASS leaders.

Voices from SI-PASS participants and leaders

Insights from SI-PASS participants

  • "That you meet other students in the course and get to discuss lectures and course material. You feel less 'alone' in the course, because you notice that others are struggling with the same issues."
  • "A safe and relaxed environment where you can bounce ideas and thoughts about the course."
  • "It is nice to know that you can ask 'stupid' questions without being judged."

Reflections from SI-PASS leaders

  • "To meet the students and see how they develop – both in their knowledge, but also in their confidence as a student."
  • "To meet the students and make them interested of a rather complex subject. And that I get a deeper understanding of the course."
  • "The most rewarding part has been to learn about group dynamics, how to manage a group and that students are so different in their way of learning."
